Court Appearance

Court Appearances 3

Any person who has a citation or legal complaint filed against them in the Municipal Court must appear in person, by mail, by counsel/attorney, or by electronic appearance on the city website. It is noted on the citation that you must appear within 10 business day (15 calendar days) from the date of the offense. If you were arrested and released on bond, the appearance date will be set on your bond; if there is no appearance date on your bond, please appear in person at the Court WITHIN 10 DAYS of your release. If you are a juvenile/minor, separate rules apply.

Your first appearance is to enter your plea. If you waive your right to a jury trial and enter a plea of "no contest" or "guilty", there are several ways to dispose of your citation. The options are to pay in person at the court window, the city website, the U.S. Postal Service, or by telephone operator at 1-800-444-1187 (trafficpayment.com).

If you plead not guilty, you are required to schedule you a pre-trial hearing. To make your appearance in person, the Court is located at 201 E. Walnut, Decatur, TX 76234 . You will be given a notice of your pre-trial setting at the time of your appearance.

Failure to appear within 10 business days (15 calendar days) from the date of the offense may result in a warrant being issued for your arrest.

*A telephone call DOES NOT constitute  an appearance in court.
